Wisconsin (ウィスコンシン州, U~Isukonshin-shū) is a fan-made supporting character in Hetalia: Axis Powers. She represents the state of Wisconsin. She was given the name Deborah "Debbie" Mikalah Schmidt-Jones (デボラ・ミカラ・シュミット・ジョーンズ, Debora mikara Shumitto jōnzu).
Attributes[]
Appearance[]
She has pale skin, long blonde hair and light blue eyes. Her appearance has been noted to be "unremarkable," apparently. She's also been described as having a very tired, glazed over, or sleepy expression constantly. She usually wears either a blue turtleneck sweater or her Green Bay Packers jersey. She's known to dress lightly in cold weather. Wisconsin is also slightly taller than your average woman.
Personality[]
Wisconsin has a soft, airy voice and often speaks in a sing-song tone, and a few states struggle to understand her due to her peculiar Great Lakes accent. She's been called weird by her siblings, notably Michigan, who says that Wisconsin has "this funny look, like she's actually 1,000ft in the air at any given time instead of on Earth." Wisconsin is one to roll with the punches and can adapt well to change, though she tends to be indecisive and "wishy-washy" as well. She has a strong obsession with cheese and takes pride in being called a "cheesehead." She'll talk to anyone who will listen for hours on end about the dairy industry. Wisconsin owes her general craftsmanship skills to her farm upbringing, but has since moved to the suburbs, simply stating that she needed a change of pace. She has a special interest in animals and seems to frequently hyperfixate on badgers.
Wisconsin is the second youngest of her Great Lakes siblings, who all lived together in the same house before they each moved out and became their own states. She's also the only girl among them, a fact that she has often lamented. Though growing up with all boys seems to have affected her positively, making her surprisingly tough and resilient.
She has a habit of drinking, well beyond what's socially acceptable too. Wisconsin is a habitual day drinker and can rarely be found completely sober. Her brother, Minnesota, once tried to get her into a 12-step program, but it didn't seem to work out.
Relationships[]
Minnesota (Robbie T. Schmidt-Jones): Wisconsin adores her twin brother, Minnesota, and would describe him as her best friend. In the past they loved getting up to mischief, which mostly involved pranking their eldest brother, Ohio.
Michigan (Derek M. Schmidt-Jones): Michigan seems to be a bit weirded out by Wisconsin on a regular basis. Wisconsin seems to enjoy this fact and lets herself zone out in the middle of their conversations, just to see his reaction. Wisconsin has often tried to get him to appreciate her many hyperfixations and hobbies, but Michigan just doesn't seem to really get her. He does share her love for the Green Bay Packers, though.
Illinois (Cillian F. Schmidt-Jones): She doesn't actually see her older brother too often anymore, as typically he's very busy. Illinois does like to gently tease her, though, and likes calling her a "Cheese Monkey," a nickname she hates as opposed to "Cheesehead."
California (Angelica C. Martinez-Jones): Wisconsin sees California as a rival and threat to her status as a top dairy producer. The rivalry seems to have gone unnoticed on California's end, though, as she usually just seems perplexed whenever Wisconsin brings it up.
New Jersey (Broderick S. Murphy-Jones): Her unlikely friendship with New Jersey began over their shared love of drinking, and the two have clicked very well ever since. Minnesota, though, claims that he's a bad influence on her. Wisconsin will usually shrug it off.
France (Francis Bonnefoy): Wisconsin may be related to France, but she has next to no memories of him from her childhood. She claims that France is her father, but the country doesn't seem to recall her specifically.
Trivia[]
- Her birthday corresponds to the date that Wisconsin was admitted to the U.S.
- Her interest in badgers may be a reference to Wisconsin's official nickname, the Badger State.
